Emergency Water Treatment Plan — Clanwilliam
Problem
Dirty, discoloured water (high organics, silt) from the Olifantsrivier source.
Solution
Rapid, temporary treatment train for colour and turbidity removal — no major plant upgrade needed.
- 1Intake pump — Draws raw water from the Olifantsrivier.
- 2JoJo tank 1 – coagulation — Alum dosed and rapidly mixed.
- 3Tank 2 – flocculation — Polymer flocculant, gentle mixing.
- 4JoJo tank 3 – settling — Retention time to settle colour and turbidity.
- 5Filters — Existing rapid gravity filters remove remaining particles.
- 6Chlorine dosing — Disinfection before storage.
- 7Reservoir — Treated water stored and supplied to the community.
